Gene Editing: Are Humans Playing God?

Is government regulation of more of an interference with nature than gene editing might be? This was the question posed by Tui Shaub, Associate Director of the Transformation of the Human Program at Berggruen Institute, in her conversation with Alta Charo, Professor of Law and Bioethics at University of Wisconsin. “Regulation” says Charo, “that is excessively focused on prohibiting things is built on a simplistic and somewhat false understanding of nature.” Our cultural and religious belief systems play a large part in our understanding of the relationship between humans and nature.
