The Berggruen Prize for Philosophy & Culture
The Berggruen Prize for Philosophy & Culture is a $1 million award given annually to honor a thinker whose body of work has led us to find wisdom, direction, and improved self-understanding in a world being rapidly transformed by profound social, technological, political, cultural, and economic change.
Prior Prize Laureates include Charles Taylor, Onora O’Neill, Martha C. Nussbaum, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Paul Farmer, Peter Singer, Kojin Karatani, Patricia Hill Collins, and Michael Sandel.

Selection Criteria
Jurors must balance multiple criteria, including: intellectual rigor and quality, substantial lifetime achievement and body of work, originality of ideas, and public impact with diverse, global reach.

The Berggruen Prize Laureate is typically announced in the fall, with a special ceremony held in the spring or summer of the following year.
