Junior Berggruen Fellow

Maya is a technology researcher, writer, and speaker. Her doctoral research focuses on the cultural apparatus that shapes machine autonomy through computational ethics and the evolving role of the human. Maya has worked with Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin, the University of Arts & Design Karlsruhe, the Transmediale digital arts and culture festival, Tactical Tech, the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto, UNICEF India, and the APC Women’s Rights Program. She has practical expertise in online harassment mitigation, digital security and data privacy; and has written about visual cultures of online activism, and big data and discrimination. At Berggruen, she is going to lead a project that compiles and analyzes the dominant metaphors associated with AI in various cultural and political geographies.
